Project Goal

Project Goal

Fuse Bio required a mechanism of action (MoA) animation to effectively communicate the key advantages of their IL-18-based technology to investors and potential partners. As an early-stage company with limited resources, they needed a cost-effective yet scientifically rigorous approach to maximize impact.

To address these needs, we developed a concise 60-second animation that balanced scientific accuracy with production efficiency. The animation needed to be visually compelling, precise, and easy to understand, particularly for investors who may not have deep scientific expertise.

Find out which of our 26 scientific animation options works best for investor relations and communications:

Given the company’s early-stage status, the production process needed to be optimized for both speed and cost efficiency while maintaining the highest scientific standards. We structured the animation using a hybrid approach, selecting the most effective animation style for each scene:

DECK 3D for Introduction and Context: The opening scenes utilized DECK 3D animation, in which molecular structures remained scientifically accurate while the animation itself was less dynamic. This approach enabled faster production while keeping costs under control—key considerations for a startup operating under tight budget and timeline constraints.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation: While DECK 3D was used for parts of the animation, certain scenes required more detailed molecular interactions. These were enhanced with molecular dynamics simulations to ensure precise representation of molecular behavior and interactions.

2D Overlays for Clarity: Because the audience included investors without deep technical backgrounds, we implemented a dual-layered visualization approach. Alongside the 3D molecular animations, we incorporated simplified 2D schematic overlays that mirrored key molecular processes in real time. These 2D callouts and structural highlights helped break down complex mechanisms and modifications, making them more accessible without compromising scientific accuracy.

This hybrid visual approach significantly improved the clarity of the animation, ensuring that viewers could both appreciate the molecular-level accuracy and easily follow the process. The client valued this balance, as it reinforced confidence in the scientific integrity of the animation while keeping it engaging and accessible to a broader audience. The animation was successfully delivered within six weeks, meeting the client’s tight deadlines for investor communications.

Outcome:

The final MoA animation effectively conveyed Fuse Biotherapeutics’ IL-18 technology, balancing scientific rigor with accessibility. By tailoring the animation workflow to the company’s strategic needs, the production successfully communicated the core mechanism to both technical experts and investors. The project demonstrated how flexible production choices can enhance scientific storytelling while accommodating strict timeframes and budget constraints. Fuse Biotherapeutics praised the animation for its engaging and digestible presentation, underscoring the impact of clear and compelling scientific visualization.
