The wear and tear of oil extraction and related equipment is a very important problem for the oil industry. Nanostructured materials can help prolong the utility of such equipment and its components.
Novomet produces electric submersible pumps (ESPs) for harsh oil well environments and reserves that are particularly hard to extract. In the production of ESP components, the company uses powder metallurgy technological processes to apply nanostructured protective and functional coatings composed of tungsten carbide with additions of aluminum and titanium oxides, chrome, and molybdenum. The coatings can improve the energy effectiveness by 20-30% and make the ESP parts more compact and highly resistant to corrosion and hydro-abrasion. Application of the nanostructured coatings on functional surfaces helps reduce the radial bearing coefficient of friction by 1.4 to 1.7 times. The Novotek powder metallurgy technological process includes operations and technologies developed and patented by the company.
